Christian Karate Academy First Belt Test . . .For The Parents

So we wanted to start the kids in Karate about the time school was out last year.  When we went to talk with the owner of the studio we took a little time and Anthony and I decided that we would take Karate also.  I loved it at first and at some point I realized what I had signed up for.  For the record Karate is not just about learning forms and kicking and punching bags. . .there is sparing, body grabs, joint locks. . . among other things thrown in there that I wasn't quite comfortable with.  It took me some time to come around ~ I eventually (like as in literally the last few days) came to terms with what was expected of me.

This week was a lot of review and going over techniques so I felt really pretty comfortable with that part.  However then came the sparing part . . . I won't lie I was worried.  However I have to say I think I kinda held my own pretty well.  I was definitely exhausted at the end of  four rounds.  Then came another part I was not looking forward to ~ endurance ~ I didn't love this part however it was doable. . .I mean really there were little kids testing with me if they could do this surely I could right!?!?!  Then the last part that intimidated me. . .breaking the board.  That turned out to not be too bad either.  It stung more than I thought it would but one of the seniors told me it was because I did not follow completely through. . . I will definitely work on that before next time. I also did not break it anywhere near the middle. . .but it's broken so that is what I am going to be happy about for now!

Anthony broke two boards. . .absolutely nuts!

I am absolutely thrilled to be past that first test!  I am going to enjoy this proud moment before I start thinking about all of the new material we have to learn before the next test!!  I really want a bag at the house I am hoping I will soon be able to talk my honey into letting me get one!

Anthony and I after our test! Our belts are the wrong size so they are not tied right . . .we will get the right ones soon hopefully ;)

Thanks to my Caylea bug for insisting on taking the camera and taking a few pictures. . .I think she did a great job!
